San Diego Intraoral Scan Acceptance

San Diego has one of the denser concentrations of digitally equipped dental offices on the West Coast. iTero and Medit units are common across practices from Hillcrest to Carmel Valley, and many doctors are submitting scans to labs daily. What slows cases down is not the scan itself , it is a lab that still requires analog confirmation steps, requests retakes for scans that are clean, or drops STL files into a generic queue with no case-specific feedback.

  • Pre-paid two-way shipping, nationwide
  • A named technician on every case
  • Margins verified against your prescription
  • Tempe + Tucson locations

THE DETAIL

How we build it.

Most large national-network labs accept intraoral scans in theory. In practice, scan files from offices outside their primary service region often sit in a general upload queue for hours before any technician touches them. When a margin is ambiguous, the case either gets silently remade to the lab's best guess or it triggers a remake request with a 24-hour delay. Neither outcome helps a San Diego doctor running a chair that afternoon. Dani Dental's model is named-technician accountability from file receipt forward. The technician who opens your STL file is the same person who mills or directs the milling of the case, and their direct line is on the case confirmation. That is not a call-center routing number. If a scan has a question attached to it, you are talking to the person who actually reviewed it, typically within the same business day. Regional labs that focus on removables or orthodontic appliances use scan acceptance as a side capability, not a primary workflow. For San Diego practices whose revenue runs on fixed prosthodontics and implant restorations, working with a lab where digital intake is the core workflow, not a bolted-on feature, produces measurably fewer remake cycles. Transparency on price is also part of the differentiation. There are no per-scan ingestion fees, no file-conversion charges for Medit or Carestream files, and no hidden design fees on single-unit cases. The fee schedule is stated at case acceptance, not after the case ships.

GETTING CASES TO US

Logistics, to the bench.

Dani Dental accepts your scan directly, in whatever open or native format your scanner exports. A technician reviews the file within two business hours of receipt, flags any margin ambiguity before production starts, and confirms acceptance by reply , not by a day-later automated acknowledgment. For multi-unit cases and implant-supported restorations, we pull the scan into our 3Shape design software for virtual articulation before any milling begins. That step catches occlusal conflicts that only show up at seating, and it is the reason our San Diego accounts report fewer chair-time adjustments per case. Crowns, bridges, veneers, implant crowns, hybrid frameworks, and full-arch digitally planned cases all move through the same digital intake workflow. There is no separate process for complex cases and no analog fallback. If your scanner exports it, we can accept it and build from it.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What practices ask

Which intraoral scanner formats does Dani Dental accept for San Diego cases?
We accept native files from Trios, iTero, Medit, 3Shape, Carestream, and Planmeca, as well as open STL and PLY exports from any scanner with open-format output. There are no file-conversion fees. If you are unsure whether your scanner's export format is on the current list, email our San Diego intake line and we will confirm within two business hours.
How quickly will I know if my scan was accepted or needs a retake?
A technician reviews every submitted scan within two business hours of receipt during standard production hours (Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM PT). If the scan passes quality review, you receive a case confirmation with estimated ship date. If a margin or occlusal record is unclear, you receive a specific retake request, not a generic rejection, so the rescan targets only what is needed.
Can I submit a scan for an implant crown or full-arch case the same way as a single-unit crown?
Yes. The intake portal and email submission process is the same regardless of case complexity. Implant-supported crowns, multi-unit bridges, and full-arch scans (including CBCT-integrated files for guided implant cases) all go through the same digital intake workflow. Complex cases receive a design-review confirmation before production begins, which adds roughly four hours to the acceptance window.
What happens if the scan I submit has a margin I am unsure about?
Flag it in the case notes at submission. The reviewing technician will assess the margin digitally and reply with one of three outcomes: accepted as submitted, accepted with a noted assumption you can approve, or a targeted retake request. We do not silently proceed on ambiguous margins. That policy is where most of our <2.5% remake rate is earned.
Does Dani Dental charge extra for digital design on scanned cases versus traditional impressions?
No separate digital-design fee is added to cases submitted by intraoral scan. The case fee covers design and production. For full-arch implant cases requiring virtual articulation and framework design in 3Shape, a design fee applies and is quoted at case acceptance before any production begins, so there are no end-of-case billing surprises.
I am a San Diego practice new to digital scanning. Can Dani Dental help us get the workflow set up?
We support onboarding for practices transitioning from PVS impressions to digital submission. That includes a test-case review at no charge, a spec sheet matched to your specific scanner model, and a named technician contact for the first 30 days of digital cases. Most San Diego practices we have onboarded hit a consistent digital submission workflow within three to five cases.
