Every permanent retainer case at Dani Dental starts with the model or intraoral scan, not with a generic wire form bent off a phantom arch. When a clinician submits a digital scan via our Dani Digital Intake Portal, the technician on the case opens the file in 3Shape Dental System and evaluates lingual contour, interproximal contact heights, and any rotations that survived treatment. Wire pre-forming happens against a printed or physical model, not freehand, so the retainer seats passively at first placement and does not introduce torque. Wire selection follows case anatomy. The default is a five-strand braided 0.0215-inch stainless wire bonded across the full anterior segment, canonically canine-to-canine on the lower or as specified. Single-strand 0.032-inch round is offered for clinicians who prefer a lower-profile option or have patients with documented metal sensitivity. A fiber-reinforced composite strip option is available for cases where clinician preference or patient anatomy makes bonded metal a poor fit. The choice is documented in the case file and confirmed with the submitting clinician before fabrication begins. Passivity testing is non-negotiable. Each completed wire form is seated on the original model and checked for rocking, gapping, or any deviation from full lingual contact before the unit is packaged. Cases that do not pass the passivity check are re-formed, not shipped. This step is the single biggest contributor to our sub-2% callback rate. It adds roughly 20 minutes per case and is built into the 5-day window, not treated as a reason to extend it. Shipping uses rigid cassette packaging developed internally after a 2023 audit found that standard foam pouches allowed wire distortion in transit. Each retainer ships in a labeled, indexed cassette that identifies the arch, wire spec, and the technician who formed it. The technician's direct contact line is printed on the case slip. If the retainer does not seat correctly at placement, the clinician calls the person who made it, not a general support queue, and a replacement or corrected unit ships same day. For orthodontic practices running high retainer volume, the Dani Retainer Program offers a monthly submission batch model with consolidated invoicing, a single point-of-contact technician assigned to the account, and priority queue positioning that compresses the standard 5-day window to 3 business days on confirmed batch weeks. Volume thresholds and pricing are discussed directly with the assigned technician, not through a procurement portal.
