Every retainer case at Dani Dental enters through our digital intake portal, which accepts STL and OBJ files from any major intraoral scanner including iTero, 3Shape TRIOS, and Medit. No physical PVS impression is required, though we accept poured models when the referring clinician prefers that path. Once the file lands, a technician reviews occlusal clearance, arch form, and posterior extension margins before the case moves to fabrication. That review step takes under 2 hours on business days and is the checkpoint that catches fit issues before material is cut. For Essix-style retainers, we thermoform over a printed resin model using 1.0 mm Duran or 0.75 mm Zendura material depending on the clinician's prescription. The model is printed on a Formlabs Form 4B at 50-micron resolution, which preserves interproximal contacts and gingival contour closely enough that the finished retainer seats without adjustment chairside in the large majority of cases. Material choice, thickness, and any occlusal modification notes travel with the case file so nothing is assumed. Hawley-style retainer teeth require a different fabrication path. The acrylic base is processed using a heat-cure protocol rather than a cold-cure or pressure-pot shortcut. Heat-cure acrylic is dimensionally more stable across the first 12 months of use, which matters when the whole point of the retainer is to hold arch form. What materials are available for Essix-style retainers?
We offer 0.75 mm Zendura and 1.0 mm Duran thermoplastic. Zendura is our default for adult patients who will wear the retainer nightly long-term. Duran at 1.0 mm is the prescription for cases with heavier occlusal loading or bruxism history. Clinicians specify material on the Rx form. If no preference is noted, we default to 0.75 mm Zendura and flag it in the shipping note so you can confirm before the patient is recalled.
How does the Hawley retainer fabrication process differ from thermoformed Essix retainers?
Hawley retainer bases are heat-cured acrylic, not cold-cured or pressure-pot processed. Heat-cure is dimensionally more stable over 12 or more months of wear. Wire clasps are 0.032-inch stainless, formed to passive engagement. Anterior replacement teeth are shade-matched using the Vita Classical guide. If a shade note is on the Rx, we confirm with the clinician before processing rather than assuming. Total turnaround on Hawley cases is the same 3 business days as Essix.
Is a 48-hour rush turnaround available, and how does a clinician request it?
Yes. Cases marked urgent before noon MST ship within 48 hours. Rush cases enter a separate fabrication queue and are not simply pushed to the front of the standard line. To request rush turnaround, select the urgent flag in the intake portal when submitting the case file, or call the lab directly. Rush retainer cases carry a $25 surcharge. The technician on the case attaches their direct phone number to the shipping notification.
What happens if a finished retainer does not seat correctly?
Call the technician whose number is on the shipping note. Not a general inbox. Not a support queue. The technician who fabricated the case handles the remake conversation and determines whether the issue is a scan artifact, a model-print tolerance problem, or a wire-adjustment question. Remake decisions are made within one business day of the call. If the issue is on our end, the remake ships at no charge on priority turnaround.
Can Dani Dental handle retainer cases for a multi-location orthodontic practice or DSO?
Yes. Multi-location practices can submit cases from individual locations through a shared account, with billing consolidated to one statement. Each location retains its own Rx history and case archive. We work with practices running 3 to 30 locations where a single standardized lab partner simplifies courier logistics and eliminates the quality variation that comes from splitting retainer work across two or three different vendors.
Does Dani Dental fabricate replacement retainers when a patient loses or breaks one?
Yes, and this is one of the more common urgent-queue requests we handle. If the clinician has a digital scan on file from the original case, the replacement fabricates from that file with no new impression or scan needed. If no digital record exists, a new intraoral scan or physical model is required. Replacement retainers on file cases can often ship within 48 hours even without the formal rush flag, depending on current queue volume.
What is the pricing structure for orthodontic retainer teeth cases?
Standard Essix retainers are priced per arch. Hawley retainers carry a separate rate that reflects the additional material and processing time. Volume pricing is available for practices submitting 20 or more retainer arches per month. There is no setup fee, no minimum order requirement for standard accounts, and no procurement maze. Pricing is published in the clinician portal on login, and a technician can walk through the fee schedule on a 15-minute intro call before you submit your first case.
