The model is verified for margin integrity and trimmed digitally to the gingival margin contour before thermoforming begins. Files can be submitted through our secure case portal or sent via your scanner's native sharing link. If you are working from a PVS impression, mail it in and we scan it in-house at no added charge before starting fabrication.
Which sheet material do you use by default, and can I specify a different gauge?
Our default for long-term retention is 0.040-inch Zendura FLX. We also stock 0.030-inch and 0.020-inch gauges. Specify the gauge on the prescription form or in the case notes. If a patient has a documented bruxing history, note that too and we will flag it for the technician before thermoforming starts.
What is the standard turnaround time from file submission to shipping?
48 hours from the moment we confirm a clean digital model in the queue. Cases that arrive with model errors or missing prescription details are held pending clarification, which is the most common cause of delay. Submitting a complete STL with a filled-out prescription form gets you the fastest turnaround, every time.
Can I order a bleaching tray at the same time using the same impression?
Yes. Submit one impression or one STL and check both boxes on the prescription form. We fabricate the Essix retainer in 0.040-inch Zendura FLX and the bleaching tray in 0.020-inch soft material as parallel cases. Both ship together, which means one courier trip and one billing line rather than two separate orders.
How do you handle a retainer that does not seat correctly at the patient appointment?
Call the fabricating technician directly. Their name and phone extension ship on the packing slip inside every box. For confirmed fit failures caused by a fabrication defect, we remake the appliance at no charge and ship it within 48 hours. We track remake causes internally. Our current retainer remake rate is below 2 percent measured across January 2024 through April 2026.
Do you offer upper and lower retainers as a paired case, and does that affect turnaround?
Paired upper and lower sets are the most common order we receive. Submit both arches as separate STL files on the same prescription form. We fabricate and ship both as a single case. Turnaround remains 48 hours for a paired set because both arches run through thermoforming concurrently on the same production ticket.

The standing program is designed for practices producing 10 or more retainer sets per month, typically orthodontic offices or general practices managing active aligner cases.
