THE SHORT ANSWER

For All-on-X fabrication, a lab needs a CBCT scan, intraoral or full-arch scan of the edentulous or pre-extraction arch, bite registration, implant position scan with scan bodies seated, implant brand and model with lot number, and photographs of the patient's natural dentition or existing smile. Digital files in STL or DICOM format are preferred for full-arch CAD planning.

What sits behind it

Completeness at submission directly controls turnaround time. A case that arrives with scan bodies not seated, no CBCT, or an unidentified implant system requires a call-back before any CAD work starts. That call-back adds 24 to 48 hours minimum. At Dani Dental, if a case arrives with all required records, design work begins the same day the file clears intake.

The CBCT is non-negotiable for full-arch planning. It gives the technician bone volume, sinus proximity, and implant angulation in three dimensions that a scan alone does not capture. Pre-extraction photographs, even a simple smartphone series of the patient's existing smile, inform tooth form and shade selection so the final prosthetic reflects natural proportions rather than a default template. For immediate-load cases, pre-extraction records are the only reference the lab has before surgery.

Implant brand and platform matter because prosthetic components are not universal. Sending fixture-level impressions without identifying the implant system forces the lab to guess or stop work. Surgeons and prosthodontists working on full-arch cases can streamline this by including the implant lot number, platform size, and connection type in the prescription. Most practices have this in the surgical chart. Including it at submission, rather than in response to a lab inquiry, shaves an average of one business day from the case schedule.
