What is a wax try-in?

For general dentists and prosthodontists managing complete or partial denture cases, the wax try-in is the last practical checkpoint before the case is irreversible. The lab mounts the selected teeth in wax at the prescribed vertical dimension and sends the try-in back on the articulator. At the appointment, the dentist seats the try-in, checks occlusal contacts, confirms the midline against facial landmarks, and has the patient speak a few test phrases to evaluate phonetics. Any adjustment at this stage is a five-minute wax correction.

Once the lab processes the try-in into final acrylic, those same corrections become remakes. That is the clinical reason the step exists.
