Is a hybrid denture removable?

The naming causes real confusion in clinical conversations. The word 'hybrid' refers to the prosthetic design, which combines a metal or zirconia substructure with a layered acrylic or composite denture-tooth setup, not to the retention method. Retention is always fixed via implant screws. Some patients arrive expecting something like a snap-on overdenture; the treatment planning conversation needs to set that straight early, or you are managing expectations chairside at delivery.

From a lab standpoint, hybrid prosthetics require an accurate implant-level impression or digital scan, a verified occlusal scheme, and a substructure that seats passively across all implant positions. Any flex in the bar or mismatch at the implant interface translates directly to screw loosening over time. That is why the design and milling steps carry more consequence than they do on a simple crown case. A lab that shortens the CAD verification step is a lab that creates a screw-loosening problem 6-8 months post-delivery.

For prosthodontists and oral surgeons planning full-arch implant cases, the fixed nature of the hybrid means prosthetic planning has to happen before surgery, not after. Implant position, angulation, and emergence profile are all constrained by the final prosthetic design. Labs that join case planning at the implant-position stage, not just at impression stage, reduce the risk of a prosthetic that technically seats but functionally compromises the result.
