FAQ
Is a hybrid denture better than a fixed prosthetic?
A straight answer first, then the context behind it, from the technicians who do the work.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Neither is universally better. A hybrid denture (implant-retained, screw-retained removable) suits patients with significant bone loss or soft-tissue deficits where a fixed prosthetic cannot achieve ideal esthetics. A fixed prosthetic offers rigid, non-removable function when bone volume supports it. The right choice depends on bone architecture, implant count, soft-tissue contour, and the patient's hygiene access needs.
THE CONTEXT
What sits behind it
For prosthodontists and oral surgeons planning full-arch cases, the hybrid versus fixed decision usually comes down to three factors: residual bone volume, the lip support needed for esthetics, and the patient's ability to maintain hygiene around non-removable hardware. Patients who have lost significant labial bone often get better soft-tissue simulation from a hybrid's acrylic flange than from a fixed zirconia arch, which cannot replicate lost tissue volume without looking overcontoured.
Fixed full-arch prosthetics, typically milled monolithic zirconia or a layered zirconia framework, offer the closest analog to natural dentition in terms of feel and function. They require a minimum of four to six osseointegrated implants with adequate bone height, and the occlusal load distribution must be planned carefully to avoid cantilever fracture. When bone support is adequate, fixed restorations eliminate the patient-side removal step and reduce long-term rebase appointments.
At Dani Dental, full-arch cases move through a documented digital workflow: intraoral scan or CBCT data in, a named technician assigned within 24 hours, and a case plan communicated back to the referring clinician before fabrication starts. Hybrid frameworks typically deliver in 10 to 12 business days; fixed zirconia arches in 12 to 15. Either path, the planning conversation happens before the first pour, not after a try-in problem.
