THE TRADE-OFFS

Where each one earns its place

<p>The decision turns on three variables: how much vertical space you have from implant platform to occlusal plane, how aggressive the patient's bite is, and how long the distal cantilever will be. Most full-arch hybrid cases have enough room for a titanium bar at 4.0 mm vertical, which is why titanium became the default substructure for screw-retained hybrids over the last fifteen years.</p><p>Pick titanium when you have standard interarch space (15 mm or more from platform to opposing occlusion), a non-bruxer, and a cantilever within 1.5x the AP spread. Choose cobalt chrome when vertical space is restricted below 13 mm, when the patient is a documented heavy grinder, or when you need to push the cantilever and want the extra stiffness to resist flex-induced screw loosening. Opt for cobalt chrome on zirconia-on-metal hybrids where the metal is doing the structural work and the zirconia is purely esthetic.</p><p>One honest caveat: if your patient is replacing a failed cobalt chrome hybrid that fractured, the failure was almost never the metal. It was screw access design, cantilever length, or occlusal scheme. Switching alloys without fixing the underlying geometry repeats the problem.</p>

<p>At Dani Dental we mill both. Roughly 80% of the All-on-X hybrids leaving the lab are titanium because that is the right call for the case. The remaining 20% are cobalt chrome, mostly restricted-vertical maxillary cases and a handful of heavy-bruxer mandibulars where the referring surgeon specifically wants the extra rigidity. We will not push one alloy on you because it is easier to mill. If your case planning points to cobalt chrome and we think titanium is actually safer, we say so before the design is locked, on the technician's direct line.</p><p>If you are running high volumes of standard interarch hybrids with predictable occlusion, a titanium-default lab with strong digital workflow will serve you well regardless of who mills it. Where Dani earns the case is the complex one: restricted vertical, full-arch opposing dentition, or a case-planning conversation that needs the lab in the room.</p>
