Intraoral Scan Acceptance

Dani Dental accepts intraoral scan files from every major scanner in active clinical use: iTero, 3Shape TRIOS, Medit, Carestream, and Planmeca. No conversion fees, no file-format arguments. Since shifting to a scan-first intake protocol in 2022, Dani Dental has processed over...

  • Margins verified against your prescription
  • Pre-paid two-way shipping
  • Talk to the technician who built it
  • Full digital workflow

Every incoming scan file moves through a four-stage digital intake pipeline built on 3Shape Communicate and Medit Link as the primary transfer rails. When the scan lands, an assigned technician opens the file within the same business day, runs a margin completeness check, and flags any areas where the capture does not give the lab enough data to proceed without a retake. That flag goes back to the doctor's practice in writing, with a screenshot of the specific zone, inside two hours. No voicemail tag, no vague rejection notice. File format handling is built into the intake protocol, not bolted on as an afterthought. Native .constructionfile (3Shape), .medit, .itero, .cab, and PLY mesh exports are all accepted directly. The lab does not charge a conversion fee and does not require the practice to export to a lowest-common-denominator STL before submitting. The technician assigned to the case receives the file in the native format where possible, which preserves color texture data useful for shade reference on anterior cases. For implant cases, the scan acceptance protocol includes a CBCT overlay step when the referring clinician provides a DICOM file alongside the intraoral scan. The technician merges both datasets inside 3Shape implant planning software to verify emergence profile clearance and abutment angulation before any milling order is placed. This step catches prosthetic-surgical misalignments that only become visible when soft-tissue and bone data appear in the same virtual space, a class of problem that purely scan-based workflows miss entirely. Practices running a DSO model across multiple locations submit scans through a single shared portal account. Each location retains its own case history and prescription record, but billing and turnaround reporting roll up to one administrative view. The setup takes under 30 minutes and does not require IT involvement on the practice side. For the 10-to-30-office segment in particular, that single-account structure eliminates the courier coordination and billing fragmentation that drives labs out of multi-location accounts inside 18 months. Quality checkpoints do not disappear once the digital file clears intake. After the CAD technician completes the design, a second technician performs an independent occlusal clearance and margin seating review using the same 3Shape Communicate viewer the prescribing dentist used to submit the case. Any discrepancy between the lab's design and the submitted occlusal record is documented in the case notes and shared with the doctor before the file goes to mill. The doctor can approve, request an adjustment, or call the technician directly using the direct line attached to every case confirmation.

HOW IT IS BUILT

From prescription to seated case.

01

Prescription in

Send a scan file or a model with your RX. A technician reads your intent before any design begins.

02

Design & verify

We design to your margin and occlusion, then verify the fit against your prescription before it ships.

03

Build at the bench

Milled, pressed, or hand-layered as the case calls for, finished by a named technician.

04

Back to your chair

Pre-paid shipping returns the case ready to seat, with the technician reachable if anything needs an adjustment.

This is our standard pipeline. The exact steps for Intraoral Scan Acceptance are being detailed and will appear here.

MATERIALS

What goes in the mouth.

The material options for Intraoral Scan Acceptance, from zirconia and lithium disilicate to hand-layered porcelain, are being written up. Ask for a Doctor Kit and a technician will talk through the right choice for your case.

CASE WORK

Judge the work on its result.

Before-and-after case work for Intraoral Scan Acceptance is being photographed at the lab. The best proof is a case of your own. Send one and see the finish on your chair.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What dentists ask about Intraoral Scan Acceptance

Which scanner brands does Dani Dental accept scan files from?
Dani Dental accepts files from iTero (all generations), 3Shape TRIOS (3 and 4 series), Medit i500 and i700, Carestream CS 3600 and CS 3700, and Planmeca PlanScan. No conversion surcharge applies to any of these. If you are running a scanner not on that list, contact the lab directly and a technician will verify compatibility before you commit to a submission.
Does the lab accept STL files, or do I need to use a proprietary portal?
Both options work. Native proprietary formats (3Shape .constructionfile, Medit .medit, iTero native export) are preferred because they preserve color texture and additional metadata. Plain STL exports are also accepted and process without a surcharge. If your scanner software only outputs STL, that is sufficient for crown and bridge cases. For implant planning cases, the lab recommends the native format to retain soft-tissue reference data.
How quickly does Dani Dental confirm receipt and review a submitted scan?
The target is same-business-day acknowledgment, and Dani Dental's own data shows that rate above 97 percent since 2022. If a margin or capture issue requires a retake, the practice receives written notification with a screenshot of the problem area within two hours of the file review. Turnaround on the fabricated restoration begins from the moment the scan clears intake review, not from the original submission timestamp.
What happens if the scan has an incomplete margin or poor capture in one region?
The assigned technician flags the specific zone, captures a screenshot from the 3Shape Communicate viewer showing exactly where the data is insufficient, and sends that back to the practice with a retake request. The message identifies the tooth number, the surface, and whether a full retake or a partial rescan of that segment is needed. This keeps the retake targeted and avoids pulling the patient back for a full appointment when a 90-second focused rescan is sufficient.
Can multi-location DSO practices submit scans from all offices through one account?
Yes. Dani Dental's portal supports multi-location accounts where each office maintains its own case history and prescription records, but billing and turnaround reporting roll up to a single administrative view. Account setup takes under 30 minutes and does not require IT involvement on the practice side. This structure is designed specifically for the 10-to-30-office range where procurement decisions move quickly but billing fragmentation is a recurring operations problem.
Does Dani Dental support CBCT integration with intraoral scans for implant cases?
Yes. When the referring clinician provides a DICOM file from a CBCT alongside the intraoral scan, the technician merges both datasets in 3Shape implant planning software. That overlay step verifies emergence profile clearance and abutment angulation before any milling order is placed. Cases where the CBCT and intraoral scan are both submitted at intake typically move through the implant design phase 30 to 40 percent faster than cases where the CBCT arrives later in the workflow.
Is there a fee for digital file submission, portal access, or scan conversion?
No. File submission through the portal is included in the case fee. There is no portal access charge, no per-scan submission fee, and no conversion surcharge for native file formats from any of the five supported scanner platforms. Practices are billed only for the fabricated restoration, per the published price schedule. If a case requires cancellation after intake review but before fabrication begins, no fabrication charge is applied.
How does Dani Dental handle shade reference on anterior digital cases where no physical shade tab was used?
Where the scanner captures color texture data (available in 3Shape TRIOS with the color module active and in Medit i700 native files), the technician uses that data as a starting reference point. For high-esthetic anterior cases, Dani Dental recommends supplementing the scan with a shade photograph using the VITA Classical or Ivoclar Chromascop scale under standardized lighting. The case confirmation form includes a shade photo upload field specifically for this reason.
