Labs that run named-technician workflows, rather than anonymous CAD pipelines, price to reflect that accountability.

For general dentists and small DSOs, the unit price is only part of the calculation. Remake rates matter more than the sticker. A crown fabricated at $110 that remakes once costs $220 plus the chair time, the patient reschedule, and the impression materials. A lab with a documented remake rate below 2.5% changes the real cost-per-unit significantly, even if the invoice price is 15-20% higher than a commodity vendor.

Some labs also charge add-on fees for expedited turnaround, custom shade matching, implant-level work such as screw-retained crowns or custom abutments, and model fabrication from digital scans. Ask for a flat fee schedule upfront. Transparent pricing that lists every SKU, including rush fees and implant-crown pricing, is a basic operational signal that the lab runs a mature shop.
