How mirror imaging works in the digital workflow
When a single anterior or premolar restoration is needed, the CAD technician imports the full-arch intraoral scan into the design software (exocad, 3Shape, or DentalCAD). The contralateral tooth, the same tooth on the opposite side of the midline, is isolated, copied, and reflected across the dental midline. The mirrored geometry is then positioned over the prep, adjusted for the actual prep margin, and refined for occlusion against the opposing arch scan.
