The lab CAD team designs the crown overnight, mills it from a monolithic zirconia or lithium disilicate puck, stains and glazes it, and ships it back on the next business day's courier. From scan upload to delivery is roughly 24 hours; no analog impression, no temporary, no second appointment for try-in.

Is a 24 hour crown the same as a CEREC same-day crown?

No. A CEREC same-day crown is milled chairside in the dentist's office during a single appointment, usually in 1-2 hours. A 24 hour crown is milled at an external dental lab and shipped back the next business day. The chairside route requires the practice to own a mill and oven, plus the staff time to design and finish in-house. The lab route keeps that workload off the practice while still compressing the traditional 10-14 day timeline.

Are 24 hour crowns weaker than standard turnaround crowns?

No, when milled from the same materials. A monolithic zirconia crown milled in 24 hours has identical flexural strength (around 1,200 MPa) to one milled on a 7-day timeline, because the material properties come from the puck, not the schedule. What changes with rushed timelines is the margin for esthetic refinement on anterior cases. For posterior monolithic crowns, the 24 hour and 7-day units are functionally equivalent.

What materials can be milled on a 24 hour turnaround?

Monolithic zirconia, lithium disilicate (such as IPS e.max), and high-strength hybrid ceramics are the standard 24 hour materials. These are CAD-milled from a single block with minimal post-processing. Materials that require layered porcelain build-up, custom characterization for anterior shade-matching, or PFM construction cannot meet a 24 hour window and typically need 5-7 business days. Implant-supported crowns also fall outside the 24 hour scope because the abutment workflow adds design and verification time.
